Deck Restoration
If your deck has heavy peeling, graying, or algae growth, our restoration involves stronger stripping agents, wood brighteners, and possibly replacing a few boards. We can often bring back even a very weathered deck short of needing full replacement at a fraction of the cost.

Deck Staining FAQs
Common questions about our services
In the Chicago area, a typical deck with semi-transparent stain should be re-stained about every 2 to 3 years. Solid-color stains might get 4-5 years. Clear sealers usually only last 1-2 years. Signs it's time: color faded, water soaks in immediately, or wood looks dry.
The best time is when weather is mild—late spring through early fall. Ideal temperature is between 50°F and 85°F, with no rain expected for 1-2 days during and after the project. Late spring (May/June) and early fall (September) are excellent choices.
For best results, yes. Loose material left underneath can cause new stain to fail. Our process includes stripping and power washing to remove old coatings. If well-adhered in some spots, we feather edges by sanding and choose similar or darker color.
Stain adds color and usually includes sealing properties. Sealing (clear) primarily protects against moisture with little to no color. We often recommend a tinted stain because the pigment acts like sunscreen for the wood, reducing UV damage significantly.
Composite decking typically doesn't need staining and manufacturers often advise against it. However, there are specialized coatings for older faded composites. For most composite decks, we recommend professional cleaning rather than staining. Wood railings with composite floor—we stain the wood.
