TSP (trisodium phosphate) is the professional standard. Mix according to package directions and scrub with soft-bristle brushes. Pay special attention to areas protected from rain—under eaves, behind downspouts—where contamination builds up.
Step 3: Final Rinse and Dry Time
Following the scrubbing, we will go back over the siding with a light power wash to give it a final rinse to remove all of the chalking and dirt.
Then wait. Wait at least 2 weeks for water that WILL have got under the joints. Then wait further for at least 3-4 days of sunny weather. Chicago's humidity makes this drying time non-negotiable.
Primer: When You Need It (And When You Don't)
If your aluminum siding has its original factory finish that's just faded or chalked, you might skip primer. Priming the aluminum siding is not necessary unless you have bare spots of aluminum. The most important thing is to clean the surface properly getting any chalk and dirt off of the surface.
